clay bells of Itsukushima

Japanese Here

"Nihon San-kei" are the three most beautiful views in Japan. They are Matsushima in Miyagi Pref., Amano Hashidate in Kyoto Pref. and Itsukushima in Hiroshima Pref. As I became a citizen of the Hiroshima prefecture from May, I'll show you clay bells of Itsukushima in this month.

Itsukushima is called Miya-jima Island of Aki, and its center is Itsukushima-jinja Shrine. Aki is the old place name of Hiroshima. The armorial bearing of Itsukushima-jinja Shrine is designed with a tortoiseshell. As the tortoise is respected as a long-lived symbol and one of the Chinese Gods keeping safe four directions, "Xuanwu", it is liked as a design of the family coat of arms.

Here are clay bells of a family coat of arms, Heike family and Mouri family.
Both families are associated deep in Miya-jima.
