The Gion Matsuri Festival

The Gion Festival (Gion Matsuri) is one of the three largest local festivals in Kyoto. The other two are the Aoi festival in May, and Jidai festival in October.
The Gion Festival is held as the midsummer celebration of Yasaka Jinja Shrine. The highlight of this celebration takes place on the 17th of July when the parede of 32 floats make there way along the main streets in Kyoto city.
